With borderline temperatures New Years Eve, a wet wintry mix accumulated to about 4 inches by New Years morning on grassy trails. Additional periods of snow through the day resulted in an overall accumulation of 6 to 8 inches. Cooler temperatures in the later part of the week should firm up the base and with additional snow forecast, we can hope for some decent trail conditions next weekend. Several inches of snow accumulated so far but hard to tell exactly how much because of the high winds and resulting drifting - nevertheless minimum coverage is still a few inches so, conditions the grassier trails of NW should be decent even though conditions beneath the powder are generally wet as it was raining yesterday through the morning before it turned to snow so. Conditions remain breezy although is it not exceptionally cold and flurries are expected to continue - all-in-all, not a bad day to get out even if only for a hike.
