Linn Run Ski #2

The second event of the Linn Run Rollerski Series took place on Sunday, September 17, in Rector (PA). We met at the bottom of Linn Run road at 8:45 am, but decided to postpone the start due to rainy conditions.  By 10:15 am we had two cars at the top, three skiers at the bottom and no more rain. After a quick warm up and few pictures, we were ready to begin.
A “mass” start didn’t seem right for three participants, so we opted for an interval start. Jim Trautmann made his debut and took off at 10:30 am, followed one minute later by Denny McDonough. Both on classic rollerskis, they were determined to climb the 11.3km uphill course through striding and double poling. Finally, Riccardo Monaco started out on skate rollerskis. Light rain was on and off and wet asphalt made rollerskiing more challenging than last time.
Riccardo passed Denny and Jim after few kilometers and made it to the top in 57:08. The classic climb was more interesting, as Denny closed the one minute gap after two kilometers and resisted Jim’s strong comeback on the final climb.  As the wet road meant a slower pace for skating, Denny mastered the slippery course and concluded with 1:19, improving his previous time by about 4 minutes. Jim was close and concluded his first climb with 1:20. Then, we replenished some calories with the usual stop at the Pie Shoppe.

In the end we were lucky with the weather and all enjoyed a great workout and fun company.
Join us next October 7th for the final TT#3 and a picnic during the peak days of Fall foliage.
